This article is for information only. Wegovy, Mounjaro and Saxenda are prescription medicines; managing symptoms and adjusting doses must be discussed with your prescriber. This is not medical advice.

44.2% of people starting a GLP-1 report nausea.
It usually settles within weeks — but those weeks are where most people quit.

Why your stomach turns

GLP-1 drugs slow how fast food leaves your stomach. That is exactly what keeps you full, and it is the same reason you feel bloated and queasy.
It is closer to a sign the drug is working than a sign something is wrong.

  • Worst in the first week or two after each dose increase
  • Vomiting hits 24.8%; diarrhoea and constipation are common too
  • Most people adapt within four to eight weeks

Changing how you eat helps a lot

  • Smaller portions more often, never one large meal
  • Greasy and fried food sits in the stomach longer and makes it worse
  • Stop before you feel full — eating to your old baseline will always backfire
  • Sip water between meals rather than with them
  • Do not lie down right after eating; reflux on top of nausea is miserable
  • Strong smells trigger it. Cold or lukewarm food is easier
💡

On bad days, get through on soup or porridge and catch up on protein tomorrow. Forcing food down makes it worse.

Constipation outlasts the nausea

Eating less means less fibre and less fluid, so constipation follows.
The nausea passes; this one often stays.

  • Aim for 25 g of fibre a day even on a small appetite
  • Drink deliberately — your thirst signal dulls along with hunger
  • A short walk does more for bowel motility than most remedies

When to stop waiting and call a doctor

⚠️

Severe abdominal pain radiating to the back can mean pancreatitis. Upper-right pain with fever can mean gallbladder trouble. If you cannot keep anything down for days, dehydration follows quickly — seek care.

The dose schedule is adjustable

If side effects are severe, holding the current dose longer or slowing the titration is a real option.
Do not decide alone — tell your prescriber exactly how it is going.

Enduring it quietly is not a virtue. Nothing gets adjusted if nobody knows.
